| VZV-gE

Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) glycoprotein E (gE), encoded by ORF68, is the most abundant viral glycoprotein. Deletion of ORF68 is incompatible with the recovery of infectious virus from VZV cosmids. Varicella-zoster virus gE is essential, as demonstrated by the restoration of infectivity following non-natural site substitution of ORF68 in the genome, and further evidenced by the role of gI in promoting the maturation and intracellular distribution of this critical varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein.
